Shanghai: Shopaholics need food too
Adjust font size:

While shopping is fun, it's also an energy consuming activity. It's great to shop non-stop from dawn to dusk, but shopaholics have to stop at least for one thing. They need to eat. To help shoppers refuel, here is a list of restaurants located inside some shopping areas in Shanghai, be it the chic stores swarming Jululu-Fuminlu, the offices dominated Zhangyanglu-Dongfanglu and the recreational Wuninglu-Xigong. Read on to check them out.

Shopping area one: Jululu-Fuminlu

Jululu is a quiet and elegant road that hosts a bunch of famous chic stores. It is the favorite place among fashion magazine editors. Stores such as Shaanxi Shoe Shop and Carry are warmly received among stylish shoppers.

*Homes

Occupying a three-storey townhouse, Homes features dishes made from secret recipes exclusively for Homes. The Shanghainese dishes are the best and are reasonably priced. Roasted fish is highly recommended for its delicious soup and slender meat. There are also nutritional items on the menu, such as thick soup shark’s fin hotpot, which contains chicken, wild bamboo fungus and a good amount of shark’s fin. You can also get many of the dishes on the menu in half portions.

Location: No.791 Jululu, Luwan District

Tel: 021-54030010

*Guyi Xiangweinong

A spot frequented by many foreigners, Guyi Xiangweinong features innovative Hunan dishes. They are less spicy than traditional Hunan dishes, so this restaurant caters well to those who like to eat spicy food, but not too spicy. The best seller is duojiao yutou, fish head stewed together with duojiao, preserved vegetables marinated in a chili sauce. Make a reservation otherwise you won’t get a seat.

Location: Tower A, Jufu Mansion, No.87 Fuminlu, Jing'an District

*Baoluo Jiulou

A famous Shanghainese restaurant, Baoluo Jiulou offers classic dishes. The highly recommended ones are Swiss beef ribs flavored with garlic, deep-fried dough sticks stuffed with seafood, and crispy walnut cake. Reservations are a must.

Location: No.271, Fuminlu Jing'an District

Tel: 021-54037239

Shopping area two: Zhangyanglu-Dongfanglu

Though offices dominate this area, most of the space on the first floor is rented out to fashion stores. Seeing those beautiful clothes every day coming to and off work, how is it possible for those office ladies only to window shop? There's also delicious food to complement a stylish appetite.

*Tenggeli Village

This restaurant sells dishes with a northwestern Chinese flavor. The mutton here doesn't taste greasy and smells delicious. Dongbe lapi, made with dry beancurd slices tastes wonderful. Almost every table orders spicy and sour potato slices and each portion is large. Hand-torn chicken here is made from those raised in the wild.

Location: No.43 Dongfanglu, Pudong District

Tel: 021-58797922

*Jiulongtang

Jiulongtang features fresh seafood. Its signature dishes include pepper and salted shrimp, roasted goose, roasted meat following a Mongolian recipe, abalone cake, and seafood and bean curd cooked in a paper pot.

Location: 9/F, No. 1 Yaohan, No.501 Zhangyanglu, Pudong Xinqu

Tel: 021-58359977

Shopping area three: Wuninglu-Xigong

Developed around a former recreation center operated by the district government, the stores here offer everything from fashion to accessories and toys.

*Yipinquan

A chain restaurant, Yipinquan presents a menu of fusion dishes. Seafood, Sichuan and Shanghainese dishes are all available here. And they are all fairly priced, with daily discounts. Some recommended dishes are roasted eel and the restaurant’s signature roasted baby pigeon.

Location: No.221 Wuninglu, Putuo District

Tel: 021-62440935

*Coco's

Coco's is a nice spot for a simple and romantic date. Its well-known dish is the fried chicken wings, which are sweet and spicy and is a nice treat for girls. Other dishes worth a try include tuna salad, chicken pizza, duo-colored chocolate balls and potato wedges.

Location: No.2101, Wuninglu, Putuo District
