Another 10 Injured HK Tourists Back from Thailand

Another 10 of the 30 holidaymakers injured in a bus accident in Thailand flew back to Hong Kong Sunday night.

Two other travelers, a 77-year-old woman and the 38-year-old tour-guide who suffered serious fractures, are still hospitalized in Thailand for further medical treatment at local doctors' advice.

Four of the 10 travelers who returned on Sunday were sent to the Baptist and Sanatorium hospitals for further check and treatment.

The accident occurred Friday afternoon and involved a tour arranged by Hong Tai Travel. All the 30 passengers were injured and most of them suffered fracture and strains.

The tourists, half of them women, were injured when their bus hit a traffic island while heading to the resort city of Pattaya. It was raining at that time. Local police believed the accident was caused by a slippery road.

The Security Bureau of Hong Kong has been following up the case to offer all possible assistance to the Hong Kong citizens on the tour, including contacting the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and the travel agency concerned for further information. The Chinese embassy staff has visited the injured in Thailand to offer help.

Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said 393 people had been killed in road accidents in the eight days leading up to the Thai new year holidays. Almost 5,000 people had been injured.
