Train Collision in Guangdong Injures over 20 People

Two passenger trains collided in south China's Guangdong Province Tuesday morning, leaving more than 20 passengers and stewards injured, said the Chinese Ministry of Railways.

 

No one was killed in the accident which took place at 9:32 a.m.when the two trains collided between the stations of Linzhai and Dongshui on the railway linking the national capital of Beijing with Kowloon of Hong Kong.

 

According to the ministry, the collision happened when train T159 was heading for east Guangzhou from Qingdao in East China's Shandong Province while train 1017 was on its way from Wuchang in central Hubei Province to Shantou in Guangdong.

 

The locomotive of train T159 has been damaged and the last four carriages of train 1017 derailed. The injured have been sent to hospital for immediate medical treatment, the ministry said.

 

Rescue work is going on and investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.

 

The railway is operated by Guangzhou Railway Group.
