The first bus-only traffic lanes for rush hours opened on Tuesday in Shanghai, according to the General Team of Traffic Police.

Unlike previous 24-hour bus-only lanes, the new lanes will be exclusive to buses daily 7-9 AM and 4-7 PM, police said.

The lanes are on Hongqiao, Zhaojiabang, Lujiabang and Fuzhou roads.

Additional bus-only lanes will open on Sunday on the following roads: Siping, Wusong, Zhongshan Road E1, Zhongshan Road E2, and Zhongshan Road S. (between Tianshui and Lujiabang roads).

The bus-only lanes on other sections of Zhongshan Road S., Zhongshan Road S1 and Zhongshan Road S2 will open next Friday.

The bus-only status of the lanes will be restricted to rush hours, as stated above.

Cyclists using those streets may need to change routes.
