Singapore Changi Airport Sees Record Number of Airlines, Flights

The number of airlines and flights at Singapore Changi Airport has reached a record high in the new Northern Winter Season, which lasts from Oct. 30, 2005, to March 25, 2006.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said in a statement on Friday that three new airlines and some 100 additional weekly scheduled flights have joined the Changi family.

AdamAir is Changi Airport's fifth Indonesian airline and Yangtze River Express is its first cargo airline from China, whose operation added Nanning to Changi's 17 city links with China.

While LOT Polish, the third new airline, makes the Polish capital of Warsaw another new city link for Changi, the American Northwest Airlines' cargo services added Wilmington in Ohio, the United States, to the airport's network.

Of the increased flights, more than half are to Southeast Asia while the remaining are mainly to China as operated by Air China, China Eastern, Shandong Airlines and Singapore's SilkAir.

According to CAAS, there are now 83 airlines flying some 4,000 weekly scheduled flights from Changi, which connect Singapore to over 175 cities in some 57 countries.
