Chinese, US scientists have recently collaborated to make headway in the research of nano optical wave guiding.
The making of nano-wire is a frontier of present-day world nano research. Dr. Tong Limin and Prof. He Sailing from Zhejiang University, working together with researchers from Harvard, used a new method and got very even-shaped sub-micron and nano-diameter silicon oxide wires, and successfully conducted low-loss transmission experiment using these wires. As an important interdisciplinary research result jointly achieved by Zhejiang University and Harvard University, it is published on the 426th issue of Nature magazine, entitled Subwavelength--diameter silica wires for low-loss optical wave guiding.
The technique, aimed at raising optical wave guiding quality, is able to bring the diameter of silicon oxide wire within scores to hundreds of nanos, which features long length, smooth surface and low-loss transmission, said Prof. He. Of world top performance indexes, Nano-wires made out in this method are very suitable for the making of various kinds of nano optical wave guiding devices, and have good prospects in the application in physics, chemistry, biology and material studies.
