China Kicks Off 85 Research Items Against SARS
A sci-tech assault for combating the atypical pneumonia is developing all over China. That launched for storming the crucial points have come to 85 items in total with a fund of some 108 million yuan (US$13 million) pooled in for them. Losing no time, tens of thousands of scientists are working assiduously in the forefront for a way out in the prevention of the atypical pneumonia.

As the reporter learned from the net meeting, "Strive for Victory over Atypical Pneumonia by Relying on Science and Technology" is held by the sci-tech systems throughout China. All sectors, localities, units and organizations, scientific systems and experts have joined their efforts to storm the difficulties by way of sharing relevant information and resources since the setting up of a national headquarters for the prevention and treatment of atypical pneumonia. Up to now, all work as to the organizing and mobilization, overall disposition and arrangement to deal with the emergency cases, i. e. the first phase of the work have already been brought to finish.

The Sci-tech Storming Group has to solve the three problems, pointed out recently Xu Guanhua, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology. First of all, it is to get to know as quickly as possible the ways and laws of epidemics and its disseminating mechanism so as to put forward the effective measures and methods for cutting off the contamination sources. The second is to sum up and then put forward in a scientific way a plan to guide the treatment, to develop special diagnostic measures and effective medicines, thereby reducing the actual morbidity and enhancing the rate in the healing. The third is to organize a breakthrough in the prevention, raising the preventive capabilities for clusters of people, and especially the medical and nursing personnel working at the forefront against the atypical pneumonia.
