Kenya to Foster Stronger Ties with China
Kenyan Vice President Michael Wamalwa said in Nairobi Wednesday that the Kenyan government regards China as its close friend and is willing to further develop friendly relations with China.

He made the remarks when meeting Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Du Qiwen. Wamalwa also reaffirmed that the Kenyan new government will adhere to One China policy.

The vice president spoke highly of China's achievements in its modernization drive, saying that Kenya should learn from China's experience of development.

African countries can not rely on outside aid in its development and they should learn from Chinese people's spirits of self-reliance and hard struggle, he noted.

Du thanked the Kenyan government for its consistent support to China on the issue of Taiwan and in international affairs, saying that the Chinese government hopes to work together with its Kenyan counterpart to push the existing friendly cooperative relations between the two countries to a new high.

Also on Wednesday, Du met with Kenyan Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services Najib Balala and Minister for Tourism and Information Raphael Tuju.

The two ministers thanked the Chinese government for its aid to Kenya over the past years, hoping that the two countries will further enhance their cooperation in culture, sports and information.

Tuju pointed to the fact that great potential remains to be tapped in the sector of tourism, saying that he hoped the Chinese government will soon list Kenya as one of its tourist destinations.
