The Chinese city of Shanghai and the Turkish city of Istanbul have decided to strengthen their existing comprehensive economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation, said Chen Liangyu, mayor of Shanghai, on Thursday.
Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee and also secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, chairman of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party.
Benefiting from China's reform and opening-up policies, Shanghai has scored remarkable achievements in urban infrastructure and in the adjustment of industrial structure over the past 10 years, Chen said.
Erdogan said Shanghai has made astounding achievements, and added that Turkey attaches great importance to its relations with Shanghai. He expressed his hope that the two sides will enhance economic, cultural and tourism cooperation.
Erdogan traveled to Shanghai from Beijing on Wednesday, accompanied by China's ambassador to Turkey. He attended a China-Turkey economic and trade forum, visited Pudong New District, viewed an exhibition of Shanghai's future urban blueprint and visited Shanghai's prestigious bund area.
