China Urges Developed Countries to Honor Commitments
China on Saturday urged the developed countries to honor their commitments so as to help achieve development goals set by the international community.

"What we need is action, rather than rhetoric," Chinese Vice Finance Minister Jin Liqun said at the 66th meeting of the Development Committee of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund held in Washington.

The developed countries should take immediate actions to implement their commitments, increasing official development assistance (ODA), opening up the market and reducing the debt of the least developed countries, Jin said.

"We appreciate the efforts of the (World) Bank and the (International Monetary) Fund in this regard. We support the (World) Bank, under the framework of Monterrey Consensus, in placing the Millennium Development Goals high on the agenda as the direction for future efforts," Jin said.

"At the same time, we also hope that the two institutions will further strengthen their cooperation and coordination with relevant agencies of the United Nations and bring into full play their respective comparative advantages, and provide more effective assistance to the developing members," Jin said.
