China Shows Fresh Face to Germans
Beautiful and lifelike pictures, model shows in both traditional and modern styles, and many other activities are giving German people a window for a clearer look into the country thousands of miles away.

"China Month" was officially opened in the northern German city of Hamburg on Tuesday. A total of 80 Chinese sponsors will hold some 100 activities within a month to show China's history, its brilliant culture and latest development in economy, society and many other fields.

At the large city hall plaza in Hamburg, all kinds of performs, including Chinese folk music instrument play and Chinese Gongfu show, attracted hundreds of German citizens. A model group from Shanghai, presenting both Chinese traditional clothing such as Qipao and many modern styles of costumes, was especially welcomed by viewers.

Many other activities make the "China Month" colorful. A series of lectures on China's culture and economic perspectives and many other China-related topics will be held during the month. Old and new films from the oriental country have already grasped many local people.

Economy-related programs will be held by Chinese businesses. A large economic delegation from Shanghai will show their German counterparts chances of cooperation with a series of large industry projects such as the building of information technology centers in Shanghai's Pudong region.

As an important part of the activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic ties between Germany and China, the "China Month" is designed to help deepen bilateral relationship and let German people know more about China, the Hamburg mayor Ole von Beust told Xinhua .

"China not only presents its image as our strong economic partner here, but also its great culture," he noted.

Shanghai is the focal point of the "China Month". As part of the efforts of bidding the 2010 World Expo, over 200 artists and businessmen and other deputies from Shanghai will show German people their city's fresh face and express their desire to win the bid.

"The bidding (of the Expo2010) has entered the hot phase," said Vice-mayor of Shanghai Zhou Muyao to Xinhua. "We want to use the "China Month" in Hamburg to let Germans and even Europeans know more about Shanghai and our strong wish to become the host of Expo2010."
