FM Spokesman on UN Rejection of Taiwan's 'Participation' Proposal
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday the rejection of a proposal to include the so-called Taiwan's "participation" in the agenda of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly demonstrates once again the firm determination of the vast majority of UN members.

The General Committee of the 57th Session of the UN General Assembly on Sept. 12 rejected the proposal by Gambia and a few other countries which called for the inclusion of the so-called question of Taiwan's "participation" in the UN in the agenda of the current session, spokesman Kong Quan said.

The Taiwan authorities, for the tenth time, failed in their attempt to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" in the UN, he said.

This once again fully reflected the firm determination of the vast majority of UN members to uphold the UN Charter and adhere to the "one-China" principle.

It also demonstrated that the Taiwan authorities' separatist attempt is doomed to failure, Kong said.

There is only one China in the world, and the Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, he said. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of China can not be severed.

"We seriously warn all separatist forces in Taiwan not to misjudge the situation," Kong said. They must immediately stop all separatist activities, he said.

The spokesman also urged the few countries to observe the UN Charter and stop activities detrimental to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
