Iran's president lashes out at nuclear 'traitors'
Adjust font size:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday lashed out at "traitors," who he said were pressuring the government over its nuclear program, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"If domestic agents do not abandon their pressures regarding nuclear issues, they will be exposed to the Iranian nation," Ahmadinejad told students, professors and officials of Iran's University of Science and Technology in eastern Tehran.

"They are traitors. We, due to our commitment to the nation, will not cave in and we will not remain onlookers," the Iranian president said.

"Due to some sensitivities, no measure will be taken, but after settlement of the nuclear issue, the nation will be briefed about everything," he added.

Some reformists and moderates inside Iran have criticized Ahmadinejad in recent months for his handling of Iran's nuclear program, warning against the "serious threats" facing the country.

The United States and some other Western countries allege Iran may try to develop atomic bombs under a civilian cover, however Tehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

The UN Security Council has already issued two sanction resolutions against Iran's nuclear program since last December, but both of them failed to persuade the Islamic Republic to give up uranium enrichment work.
