Mongolian parliament accepts PM's resignation
Adjust font size:

Mongolia's parliament, the State Great Hural, discussed and accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Miegombyn Enkhbold Thursday morning.

Enkhbold submitted his resignation to the parliament Monday.

Parliament speaker Danzan Lundeejantsan said the government headed by Enkhbold would perform its function until a new government is elected.

Enkhbold decided to step down after he was defeated by Sanj Bayar in the October election for the chairman of the ruling Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP).

The MPRP's congress said the party's chairman should serve as the prime minister.

The MPRP, Mongolia's largest party, was established in 1921 and now has more than 160,000 members. It holds 39 seats in the 76-seat parliament and formed a coalition government after Enkhbold was elected prime minister in January 2006.
