Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan held talks with his South Korean counterpart Yoon Kwang-ung in Seoul on Monday, exchanging views on international and regional security situation and other issues of mutual concern.

Relations between China and South Korea developed rapidly since the two established diplomatic ties 14 years ago, said Cao, who is also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of China and a state councilor.

Cao pointed out Sino-South Korean relations fully and deeply developed especially after the two set up all-around cooperation partnership.

"Exchanges between the armies of the two countries also expanded in recent years," said Cao.

The cooperation between the two countries not only boosted development of the two neighbors but also made great contribution to the peace and stability of the Northeast Asia, added Cao.

While, Yoon pointed out, currently, the two countries have common interest in maintaining regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Yoon also said ties between the two countries and armies developed well, adding the South Korean army will continue committing itself to develop relations with China's army.

Yoon also reiterated South Korea will stick to the one-China policy in future.

Earlier Monday, Cao also paid a courtesy call on South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun at the Presidential Office in downtown Seoul.

Cao arrived here on April 15 for a five-day formal and good will visit.

South Korea is the last leg of Cao's tour to five Asian countries, which already brought him to North Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.
