China to Push for Results of Six-Party Talks: State Councilor

China will work with other parties concerned to push for results at the international talks on the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Sunday.

In a meeting with visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Sunday afternoon, Tang said China is glad to see that the process of six-party talks will be resumed late in this month due to the joint efforts of all parties concerned.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) announced Saturday that it agrees to open the fourth round of six-party talks in late July. The six-party talks involve China, the DPRK, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia and the US.

Three rounds of six-party talks were held in Beijing during 2003 and 2004. Since then, Pyongyang has refused to attend, citing "hostile" US policies.

Tang said in his meeting with Rice that China has always insisted on peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula through dialogues.

"We will work with all parties concerned to push forward the fourth round of six-party talks to achieve results," Tang said.

Rice said the pending new round of six-way talks is very important. She said the US is willing to make efforts for progress of the talks.

Rice arrived in Beijing for a visit to China Saturday evening. She held talks with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and met with President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
