China Promises to Provide Support for Cambodia's Infrastructure

Premier Wen Jiabao said Monday China will provide support for Cambodia's infrastructure projects in form of cash and equipment.

China will also encourage more Chinese firms to invest and participate in technical renovation in Cambodia, said Wen in meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, for the second summit of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program.

Wen said China attaches great importance to Sino-Cambodian trade relations and will make active efforts to further the trade ties between the two neighbors.

Describing the two countries as good neighbors, good friends and good partners, Wen said bilateral cooperation in various fields has become more and more active and fruitful. Meanwhile, the two countries have also maintained close consultations and coordination in international and regional issues, said Wen.

Wen also invited the Cambodian side to conduct cooperation with southwest China's Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.

Hun Sen deemed bilateral friendship "eternal," saying the Cambodian people will not forget the help China has given for Cambodia's development and economic construction.

Cambodia hopes the two sides can enhance cooperation in Cambodia's water conservancy and infrastructure, said Hun Sen. Cambodia will also step up consultations with China in international affairs, Hun Sen said.

The second summit of the GMS Economic Cooperation Program is being held from July 4 to 5 in Kunming. The GMS program was initiated by the Asian Development Bank in 1992 to promote the development of the Mekong river valley and the cooperation between nations along the river.

The first summit was held in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia in 2002.
