Vice Premier Stresses Trade Cooperation with Denmark

Vice Premier Wu Yi said Tuesday China is ready to expand win-win cooperation with Denmark in more fields.

At a meeting with Danish Deputy Prime Minister Bendt Bendtsen, Wu praised the sound bilateral relationship, economic and trade relations in particular, between China and Denmark since they forged diplomatic relations 55 years ago.

Chinese customs statistics show the two-way trade between China and Denmark reached US$3.15 billion in 2004, up 28.2 percent year-on-year. In the first four months of this year, bilateral trade jumped by 27.1 percent to US$1.17 billion.

Cooperation between China and Denmark in the fields of finance, science and technology, culture, education and energy has also been deepened, Wu said.

She said China appreciated Denmark's' position to pursue free trade, noting that China hoped Denmark would continue playing an active role in the EU to push for the recognition of China's status of full market economy and the lift of arms ban on China.

The vice premier hoped the two sides could work together to promote in-depth development of the all-round strategic partnership between China and EU.

"China and Denmark, against the backdrop of economic globalization and within the framework of the World Trade Organization, should strengthen coordination and expand cooperation in many fields such as education, energy and environmental protection so as to achieve win-win results," She said.

Bendtsen, also minister for economic and business affairs, said the relationship between Denmark and China has progressed smoothly as a result of frequent exchange of high-level visits. The two countries have also witnessed good cooperation in trade, investment, culture and many other fields.

"I hope this situation will continue," said Bendtsen, who is in Beijing at the invitation of Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai to discuss further expanding trade and economic cooperation.
