Non-Communist Jiu San Society Holds National Congress
Jiu San Society, one of China's leading non-Communist parties, opened its eighth national congress in Beijing Tuesday.

The main task of the congress will include the study and implementation of Deng Xiaoping Theory, the "Three Represents" thoughts of President Jiang Zemin as well as guidelines of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was held in mid November.

The participants will also discuss and approve amendments to the society's constitution and elect its central committee.

As part of its effort to keep pace with the times and concern itself with China's economic development and modernization drive, Jiu San Society will work as always for the promotion of science and education, solicit opinions from general public, offer ways and means, and contribute still more to the great cause of the motherland's reunification.

The CPC central committee sent a congratulatory message to the congress commending the society with its glorious history and fine traditions, saying that it had contributed tremendously to the struggle alongside the CPC for national independence and the Chinese people's nationwide liberation.

Acknowledging that all non-Communist parties were the CPC's long-term bosom friends, close partners as well as important participants in the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the message said that under the CPC's leadership, all people from various social strata, parties, organizations and ethnic groups would be united to realize a well-off society and China's modernization.
