The organization and publicity departments of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee have issued a joint circular, urging Chinese cadres to read and study a series of teaching materials especially compiled for them.
The series which has a preface by the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Jiang Zemin, is for training Chinese cadres, and includes areas such as political science, the market economy, business administration, law, history, and literature.
In the preface Jiang says that the CPC has always paid attention to the study of the whole Party and that the development and progress of the Party is closely related to this.
It is now more important and urgent than ever before, for the whole Party, especially leading cadres, to study, Jiang said.
The first 12 volumes of the teaching material which include " Basic Issues on Marxism and Leninism", and "An Introduction to the Socialist Market Economy", have been published by the People's Publishing House in Beijing. They took hundreds of scholars more than two years to compile.
