Shanghai International Film Feast Set for June

Shanghai International Film Festival will start June 11 and will run through to the 19. 17 local cinemas that will show the 200 films from home and abroad during the event. 

Organizers of the 8th Shanghai International Film Festival announced Saturday they have decided on the 17 local cinemas that will show the 200 films from home and abroad during the event, and that the ticket prices will remain the same as last year, at between 30 yuan (US$3.6) and 50 yuan, the Youth Daily reported.

The annual festival will start June 11 and will run through to the 19.

The 17 cinemas, two more than were used at last year's festival, include Lan Seng Theatre, Westgate Film Art Center, Paradise Warner Cinema City, Stella Cinema City, Shanghai Film Art Center, Tian Shan Cinema, UME International Cineplex, Grand Cinema, Cathy Theatre, International Cinema, Heng Shan Cinema, Peace Cinema, Hu Bei Cinema, Studio City, Super Cinema World, Cao Yang Cinema and New World Cinema City.

According to a SIFF organizer, 314 films from 43 countries and regions, including 250-odd from the European countries, have been sent to compete for the Jin Jue Award.  The organizer will choose 200 for public screenings, which are expected to attract 280,000 movie buffs.

Most of the screenings, in 555 shows during the nine days, will be aired in the evenings from 18.30 with night shows starting at 20.45.

Besides the film panorama, other major events on the agenda include the opening ceremony, the Jin Jue Award International Film Competition, the International Film & TV Market, the Jin Jue International Film Forum and the Asian New Talent Award, organizers said.

An exhibition of 100 film posters and a showcase of classic Chinese films will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Chinese films, which occurs this year.
