All domestic fowl such as chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, quails, ducks and geese are susceptible to infection. Of these, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese are the most likely to be infected. Young fattening turkeys and laying hens are particularly susceptible with high morbidity and mortality. Though they have a relatively lower susceptibility, waterfowl like ducks and geese are still able to carry the virus and may suffer widespread fatalities. All kinds of chickens and turkeys are susceptible to infection and death at any age. Age correlation is evident in waterfowl where young birds like ducklings and goslings suffer from a relatively high mortality. So far there is no known evidence of correlation to gender.
