The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Tuesday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 27, 5 provinces reported new SARS cases, of which, 1 province reported both new diagnosed cases and new suspected cases, 4 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 26 provinces reported no new case.

By 10:00 am May 27, 26 provinces had reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces, and Tibet Autonomous Region have not found any case. Of the provinces having reported suspected or diagnosed SARS cases, Heilongjiang and Xinjiang still reported no diagnosed case; Ningxia, Zhejiang, Fujian, Chongqing, Jiangxi and Shandong reported less than 5 diagnosed cases respectively; Anhui, Shanghai, Gansu, Jiangsu, Hubei, Liaoning and Hunan reported less than 10 diagnosed cases respectively. Hunan, Fujian and Shandong had reported no new case for more than 1 month; Ningxia, Jiangxi, Henan and Chongqing had reported no new case for 20 days; Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Gansu, Tianjin, Jinlin and Guangdong had reported no new case for 10 days; Guangxi had reported no new case for 9 days; and Hubei had reported no new case for 8 days.

From 10:00 am May 26 to 10:00 am May 27, China reported 9 new cases, 115 patients recovered and 4 deaths. Of the 9 cases, 7 used to be suspected but now are confirmed as SARS patients.

Of these figures:

Beijing reported 9 new cases (of which 7 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 81 patients recovered and 4 deaths

Shanxi reported no new case, and 14 patients recovered

Inner Mongolia reported no new case, 13 patients recovered

Tianjin reported no new case, and 3 patients recovered

Hebei, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Gansu reported no new case, with each province reporting 1 patient recovered.

By 10:00 am May 27, China had a total of 5,322 SARS cases (966 medical workers; Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Guangdong each reported 1 misdiagnosed case.), which included 2,944 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 321 deaths. Now 2,057 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

From 10:00 am May 26 to 10:00 am May 27, China also reported 26 new suspected cases, including 11 from Beijing, 1 each from Hebei, Hubei and Xinjiang, 12 from Guangdong.

From 10:00 am May 26 to 10:00 am May 27, China also reported 136 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 68 were from Beijing, 40 from Guangdong, 14 from Hebei, 4 from Shanxi, 3 from Inner Mongolia, 2 from Tianjin, 1 each from Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Hubei and Sichuan. By 10:00 am May 27, China had a total of 1,393 suspected cases.
