The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Friday afternoon a press release in the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 2, 13 provinces reported new SARS cases and new suspected cases, 4 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 14 provinces reported no case. By 10 am of May 2, 26 provinces reported SARS cases.

From 10 am of May 1 to 10 am of May 2, China reported 176 new cases (including 28 medical workers), 21 patients recovered and 11 deaths. Of the 176 cases, 80 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients.

Of these figures:

Beijing reported 96 new cases (of which 48 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 9 patients recovered and 9 deaths.

Tianjin reported 12 new cases

Hebei reported 14 new cases (of which 4 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients)

Shanxi reported 4 new cases (of which 1 used to be a suspected case and now is confirmed as SARS patient), 7 patients recovered

Inner Mongolia reported 26 new cases (of which 20 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 3 recovered, and 2 deaths

Jilin reported 5 new cases (of which 3 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients)

Jiangsu reported 3 new cases (of which 2 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients)

Anhui reported 2 new cases

Henan reported 1 new case

Hubei reported 1 new case (which used to be a suspected case and now is confirmed as SARS patient)

Guangdong reported 9 new cases, and 2 recovered

Guangxi reported 2 new cases (of which 1 used to be a suspected case and now is confirmed as SARS patient)

Shaanxi reported 1 new case.

By 10 am of May 2, China had a total of 3,799 SARS cases (including 778 medical workers), which included 1,372 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 181 deaths. Beijing reported 13 patients (including 3 medical workers) who had been falsely diagnosed with SARS. Sichuan reported 2 patients who had been falsely diagnosed with SARS.

From 10 am of May 1 to 10 am of May 2, China also reported 322 new suspected cases, including 145 from Beijing, 16 from Tianjin, 11 from Hebei, 26 from Shanxi, 23 from Inner Mongolia, 7 from Jilin, 3 from Shanghai, 1 from Jiangsu, 4 from Anhui, 1 from Henan, 1 from Hubei, 1 from Hunan, 71 from Guangdong, 3 from Guangxi, 1 from Chongqing, 6 from Shaanxi, and 2 from Ningxia.

From 10 am of May 1 to 10 am of May 2, various local reports also ruled out a total of 74 suspected cases. By 10 am of May 2, China had a total of 2,459 suspected cases.
