Anti-war Protests Continue in Jakarta
Some 1,000 supporters of Indonesia's second largest political party, Golkar, held a rally along the main streets here Sunday voicing their opposition against the military aggression to Iraq by the United States and its allies.

The protesters carried banners and posters denouncing the US-led war against the Iraqi people, urging the United States to stop it immediately.

Akbar Tandjung, general chairman of Golkar, also Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, urged the United States and its allies to stop the war and immediately withdraw their troops from Iraq.

He called on the United Nations to hold a General Assembly emergency session to stop the aggression.

Meanwhile, hundreds of kindergarten teachers staged another anti-war demonstration on the main streets of Jakarta, condemning the US-led invasion to Iraq, displaying their sympathy and concern for innocent Iraqi children who have become victims of the US aggression.

These teachers came from all over Indonesia and have been in Jakarta to attend a national congress as well as sports and arts competitions.

The anti-US and anti-war demonstrations and protests have never ceased for one single day in Jakarta since the war broke out on March 20, and at its peak, over 200,000 people took streets last Sunday to show their angry and condemnation against the bloody war.
