Iraqis Banned to Use Satellite Phones
Iraqis have been banned to use portable satellite telephones, which could be used by "agents" to guide US and British bombs and missiles.

In a statement read on the Iraqi state television on Wednesday, a government spokesman said Iraqis should hand over their satellite phones "before it is too late."

He said all satellite communications equipment is banned in Iraq, adding "such equipment has been used by agents involved in treacherous acts."

The spokesman warned that those who refused to hand over their phones could be subjected the full force of the law.

He added, however, Iraqis who hand over their satellite phones could have a receipt and have them back after the war.

Last week, three Iraqis had been arrested on allegations of guiding US and British bombs and missiles in air raids on Baghdad. A portable satellite phone was found with them as one of "spying equipment."

Baghdad has been under repeated bombardments by coalition forces since the US-led war started on March 20. Government buildings and presidential palace complex have been targeted many times during these air raids.
