Chairman of Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee of Protestant Churches of China, president of the China Christian Council, vice chairman of Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC Committee, Standing Committee member of National People's Congress (NPC), and member of NPC Foreign Affairs Committee in 1980-1989.

Vice chairman of CPPCC National Committee, chairman of Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee of Protestant Churches of China, and president of the Christian Council of China in 1989-1997.
