Party Urges Stronger Anticorruption Measures

Chinese authorities have called on the discipline and supervision departments to step up anti-corruption efforts in order to fully implement the guidelines issued during the recently concluded 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the new head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks in an address to members of his commission and the Ministry of Supervision.

He said that since the Fourth Plenary Session of the 13th CPC Central Committee in 1989, and especially following the 15th CPC National Congress in 1999, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to Party building and the struggle against corruption and has taken a series of significant measures to ensure their implementation.

Through the efforts of the whole Party and society, the war against corruption has been intensified and has yielded positive results, Wu said.

He said that Party committees and governments at all levels should follow the guidelines issued by the 16th CPC National Congress and unswervingly intensify the campaign against corruption. The CPC discipline commissions at all levels should be even more conscious of their obligations and responsibility.

Wu urged that the anti-corruption campaign be carried out in accordance with the demand for economic, political and cultural reforms to contribute to overall development, stability, and the building of a xiaokang (well-off) society in an all round way.
