In 2003, the telecommunication sector of the province earned 18.14 billion yuan in total, an increase of 13.8 percent on the previous year. By the end of the year, the number of local fixed phone subscribers had reached 11.24 million including 6.96 million urban subscribers and 4.28 million rural subscribers. In addition, mobile phone users amounted to 9.465 million, a rate of 27.14 percent. The telephone switching board capacity had reached 14.51 million entries.

Radio and TV stations:

At the end of 2003, there were all together 10 radio stations, 36 medium- and short-wave transmission and relay stations and 96 FM radio transmission and relay stations as well as 10 TV stations and 15 1,000KW TV transmission and relay stations.
