Holidays and Observances:
8: International Literacy Day.
10: Teacher's Day.
16: International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
20: National Tooth-care Day.
21: International Day of Peace.
23: World Deaf Day.
24-26: Tasting New Rice Festival, observed by many ethnic minorities in southwest China in the eighth or ninth month, depending upon the harvest. The Va people celebrate it from the 14th to 16th day of the 8th lunar month with song and dance performances and gatherings to taste the newly harvested rice.
25: Mid-Autumn Festival (15th of the 8th lunar month). A traditional time of family reunion, celebrated by eating mooncakes and enjoying the full moon.
27: World Tourism Day.
Notes:
1. In the traditional calendar, the new moon indicates the first day of a lunar month; the full moon marks the 15th day.
2. Dates in red are official holidays. To give workers three week-long holidays during the year, the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding or following the extended holiday are official workdays. In 2007, there are two official work weekends in April and September, and one divided in February.
