100,000 to Move out of River Source Regions
Adjust font size:

In order to improve the ecological environment of the three-river-sources, nearly 100,000 farmers and herdsmen will have to move out of the source regions before 2010. The total investment of this project will reach 7.5 billion yuan.

The three-river-source refer to the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Lancang River. Several years of human activities made the regions seriously deteriorating environmentally.

Li Xiaonan, an official of the Qinghai provincial government, said that some 6,000 Tibetans would have to give up their years’ long work of herdsmen in favor of new occupations. As a matter of fact, some of them have already found jobs in town.
