Buddhist organizations from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong have signed an agreement to display the remains of Buddha's finger bone. The exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center starting on May 26. At the same event, another 20 religious treasures will be shown to the public.
Buddhist masters and believers attended the signing ceremony in Hong Kong on Monday. The public will be able to worship Buddha's finger relics for 10 days. The Venerable Kwok Kuang, president of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, called the display a grand event and a rare opportunity for Buddhists.
The Buddha's finger bone was unearthed at the Dharma Door Temple in Xi'an in 1987, after lying in obscurity for more than a thousand years. The bone is the only remains of Buddha's finger currently existing in the world, making it a national treasure.
The bone will be flown from Xi'an to Hong Kong by charter plane on May 25. Similar exhibitions have been held in Taiwan Island and Thailand and were warmly welcomed by the public.
