Spring Festival Preparations Hit Top Gear
With China's most important annual holiday, Spring Festival, just around the corner, a festive atmosphere is sweeping across the country.

In China's capital city, Beijing, a number of artistic performances are in store for its residents. Traditional Chinese operas, acrobatics, modern drama, concerts, singing and dancing... whatever their preference, Beijing residents will have 280 shows to choose from, starting Sunday. The China Song and Dance Ensemble and the Peking Opera Troupe will present Spring Festival specials during the holiday. Overseas artists and artists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions will also join in the celebrations with presentations of handmade gifts, and performances for Chinese audience such as magic and ballet shows.

In Shanghai, the number of foreigners who are staying in China to celebrate the coming Spring Festival with their Chinese friends is rising continuously. Lights and lanterns are lighting up an already festive atmosphere. All kinds of product promotions related to the upcoming Spring Festival are proving popular. And exhibitions, especially activities held by foreigners, are hot across the city. At this food show showcasing Thai products, many special holiday-related items such as durian, longan and rice are in demand.

In southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, a chilly-pepper-shaped Spring Festival decoration is proving popular. It is made of silk and brings people close to nature. The coming Year of the Sheep has given plenty of inspiration for activities such as riddle guessing and calligraphy presentations. With decorations of their favorite food hanging at home, people in Chongqing are confident this Chinese New Year will be the best ever.
