Guangdong, HK and Macao Establish Cultural Collaboration
Officials of south China's Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao Monday signed an agreed minute at the end of the Greater Pearl River Delta Cultural Summit in Hong Kong to establish a foundation for cultural collaboration.

The three places also shared views and information on cultural facilities, cultural development and exchange during the summit, which was organized by the secretary for home affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Patrick Ho.

The director general of the Department of Culture of Guangdong Province, Cao Chunliang, the president of the Cultural Institute of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Heidi Ho, and the heads of cultural bureaus of seven cities in the Pearl River Delta region attended the summit.

Patrick Ho put forward three principles, namely, collaborative spirit, common identity and international branding as the basis for cultural collaboration in the delta area.

Ho also suggested the Greater Pearl River Delta region could jointly make a recommendation for Cantonese opera to be included in the UNESCO world heritage list, promoting the art to the world.

It was agreed that the three places would set up working groups and hold regular meetings to follow up specific areas of collaboration, including mutual exchange of information and talents for performing arts, joint organization of world-class performances and co-operation in ticketing network.

Collaboration will also be made in development of museum network and the excavation, conservation and promotion of heritage, digital libraries network and promotion of Cantonese opera and training of talents.
