Carnivals Hail National Holiday
For those who love the golden melodies of Chinese national folk songs, the gala performance being presented by the China Central Song and Dance Ensemble of Nationalities at the Shanghai Grand Theatre will be the perfect choice.

According to Xu Yin, theatre spokeswoman, the ensemble has nurtured and attracted several generations of talented and resourceful performers and composers, most of whom are from ethnic minorities.

Their performance, entitled The Beautiful Home, which will be presented from Monday to Wednesday, is expected to have the most eminent cast of well-loved artists, such as Jiang Dawei, Yang Liping, Tengge'er and Dedema.

The show will include almost all of the well-known songs and dances, which audiences throughout the country regard as master works.

The younger generation should look out for Brett Daniels from Las Vegas, who is often referred to as "The Prince of Magic."

Daniels will perform eight times at the Shanghai Gymnastics Center from Tuesday to Monday.

Daniels has arrived in the city with six technicians and a group of dancers -- he also brought four shipping containers of prop weighing about 40 tons for what is claimed to be unprecedented in the performance history of the city.

"The audience in the city will get the chance to see how Daniels walks with ease through a turbine engine safe and sound," said Zheng Mei, manager of Shanghai Circus World, chief organizer of the event.

The National Day holiday also provides chances for family get-togethers.

Several carnivals will be held at Century and Luxun parks to cater for the demand.

For children, there is an entertaining puppet show at Century Park, or they can taste delicious cakes at Luxun Park, where the air is rich with sweet smelling fairy floss.

The organizers of the Golden Autumn Carnival said in order to offer the thrill of amusement facilities, they invited a world-renowned carnival organizer from Australia to get involved.

The Australian company will bring over 50 million yuan (US$6 million) of amusement facilities, like a giant slide and roller coaster, to the city.

A beer tasting event is sure to be a winner with men and, for the women, there will be parties showing the latest hair styles.

With the holiday fast approaching, make a plan, prepare well and enjoy!
