Sacrifice hall, the simple building of mausoleum site of Huangdi, legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, was been checked up on Friday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, marking an end of the second stage of mending work.

At cost of about 200 million yuan (US$24.6 million), the grand sacrifice hall began construction in January 2003 and was put into use on March 15 2004.

The outbuildings were completed last November.

The whole mending project, covering an area of 13,600 square meters, includes construction of the sacrifice hall, audience plaza, bounding wall, turrets and tunnel along with the acoustics sets, lamps, power supply and burglarproof systems.

"The hall is the greatest sacred site to give a panorama of the centuries-old Chinese culture, both extensive and profound," said Zhang Wen, deputy director of The Shaanxi provincial bureau of cultural relics.

The third phase renovation project is expected to start soon, said the official.
