Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education released a college subject analysis recently, finding that the graduates of some subjects or disciplines always have problem in employment.
Biology of reproduction remains to be among the least popular disciplines with low employment rate for two consecutive years. Aquatic science and materials science were the other two recorded in 2003 while mechanics and philosophy replaced them to be among the last three last year.
The commission suggested that colleges and universities should take into account the analysis when they plan to set up new disciplines or subjects.
Besides the subjects with the lowest employment rates, the overheated ones also need special attention. The authorities found there were too many colleges offering the same subjects as English language, International Trade and Finance. It's big redundancy, the commission warned.
