The 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics
Beijing successfully hosted two sports events in the summer of 2008: the 29th Olympic Games from August 8 to 24, and the 13th Paralympics from September 6 to 17.
A total of 11,438 athletes from 204 countries and regions participated in the summer games, competing in 302 events from 28 sports. They created 43 world records and renewed 132 Olympic records, and 87 countries and regions won medals. The number of participants, including athletes, coaches and officials, exceeded 60,000.
The Paralympics held 21 events in 20 sports, attracting 3,968 competitors from 147 countries and regions. They broke 279 world records and 339 Paralympic records.
These two games would not have been possible without China's rapidly growing composite national strength, strength of socialist system, concerted efforts of the whole nation, and support of other countries and peoples.
Through these two games, the Chinese nation realized a dream of hosting the Olympic Games and honored their promise to the world of presenting two games of equal splendor, thus further contributing to human civilization and progress. The sports events promoted the Olympic spirit of solidarity, friendship and peace, and enhanced mutual understanding and friendship among different peoples under the slogan "one world, one dream."
2008年北京夏奧會、殘奧會
2008年8月8日至24日、9月6日至17日，北京成功舉辦第二十九屆夏季奧運會、第十三屆殘奧會。
2008年北京夏奧會共有參賽國家及地區204個，參賽運動員11438人，設28個大項、302小項；共有60000多名運動員、教練員和官員參加；共創造43項新世界紀錄及132項新奧運紀錄，共有87個國家和地區在賽事中取得獎牌。
2008年北京殘奧會設20個大項、21個分項賽事，共有參賽國家和地區147個，參賽運動員3968人；共打破279項殘疾人世界紀錄及339項殘奧會紀錄。
北京夏奧會、殘奧會的成功舉辦，靠的是改革開放以來中國持續快速增強的綜合國力，靠的是社會主義制度能夠集中力量辦大事的優越性，靠的是中國各族人民的團結奮斗，靠的是世界各國人民和國際社會的大力支持。
北京夏奧會、殘奧會的成功舉辦，實現了中國人民的百年奧運夢想，實現了中國人民對國際社會作出的舉辦一屆有特色、高水平的夏奧會、殘奧會，兩個奧運同樣精彩的鄭重承諾，昭示了中國人民有能力為人類文明進步作出更大貢獻。北京夏奧會、殘奧會的巨大成功，弘揚了團結、友誼、和平的奧林匹克精神，促進了世界各國人民的相互了解和友誼，讓“同一個世界，同一個夢想”的口號響徹世界。
