People on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait Are All of the Same Family
Xi Jinping has a deep understanding of the Taiwan question and is familiar with the history of Taiwan and cross-strait relations. He understands the specific concerns of the people in Taiwan, with what happened in the past and the specific position they now find themselves in. He has, therefore, expressed his sincere desire on many occasions to work with the people in Taiwan to help allay the historical misgivings that may still exist in Taiwan so that people on both sides could join hands and move to the future.
On October 6, 2013, he met with Mr. Vincent Siew, honorary chairman of the Cross-Strait Common Market Foundation, and expressed his hope that two sides could work together as “one family” to increase exchanges and cooperation and realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On other occasions afterward, he emphasized the idea of “ties of kinship between the two sides.” This bond is rooted in our blood and soul, and in the history and culture we share. Xi Jinping proposed the idea of “ties of kinship” based on this close bond, on our common history and culture, and on our goal of national rejuvenation.
At the meeting in January 2019 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the publication of the Message to Our Compatriots in Taiwan, Xi Jinping pointed out that the Taiwan question was a result of national weakness, and it will get solved along with national rejuvenation. The people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits should join hands to realize the Chinese Dream, shoulder the mission of achieving national rejuvenation, and share the glory of national rejuvenation.
“兩岸一家親”
兩岸同胞是命運(yùn)與共的骨肉兄弟，是血濃于水的一家人。習(xí)近平對(duì)臺(tái)灣問(wèn)題有深刻的理解，熟知臺(tái)灣歷史和兩岸關(guān)系歷程，也理解臺(tái)灣同胞因其歷史遭遇和社會(huì)環(huán)境所形成的特定心態(tài)，多次表達(dá)了愿與臺(tái)灣同胞一起努力，化解臺(tái)灣同胞的歷史心結(jié)、共同把握現(xiàn)在、開(kāi)創(chuàng)未來(lái)的真誠(chéng)心愿。2013年10月6日，他在會(huì)見(jiàn)臺(tái)灣兩岸共同市場(chǎng)基金會(huì)榮譽(yù)董事長(zhǎng)蕭萬(wàn)長(zhǎng)時(shí)提出，希望倡導(dǎo)“兩岸一家親”的理念，加強(qiáng)交流合作，共同促進(jìn)中華民族偉大復(fù)興。此后，他又多次強(qiáng)調(diào)和踐行“兩岸一家親”理念。兩岸同胞一家親，根植于共同的血脈和精神，扎根于共同的歷史和文化。習(xí)近平從血脈親情、歷史文化、民族復(fù)興的角度提出“兩岸一家親”，指明了兩岸同胞處理彼此關(guān)系的基本思路，有助于拉近兩岸同胞的感情和心理距離，增進(jìn)國(guó)家、民族、文化的共同認(rèn)同，共圓中華民族偉大復(fù)興的中國(guó)夢(mèng)。在《告臺(tái)灣同胞書(shū)》發(fā)表40周年紀(jì)念會(huì)上，習(xí)近平指出，臺(tái)灣問(wèn)題因民族弱亂而產(chǎn)生，必將隨著民族復(fù)興而終結(jié)。兩岸同胞要攜手同心，共圓中國(guó)夢(mèng)，共擔(dān)民族復(fù)興的責(zé)任，共享民族復(fù)興的榮耀。
