Respect for Ethnic Minority Customs and Traditions

Respect for ethnic minority customs and traditions has always been a policy focus of the CPC and the Chinese government, a reflection of the principle of ethnic equality. This includes respect for traditional festivals of minority ethnic groups, their dietary cultures and their funeral and burial rites, and protection for their freedom of religion or belief. As ethnic customs are dynamic under the influence of social, economic and scientific progress, the freedom to reform customary practices is also respected. But such reforms should always be initiated, decided upon and executed by minorities themselves, rather than mandated or imposed from without.

尊重少數民族風俗習慣

尊重少數民族的風俗習慣是中國共產黨和中國政府一項重要的民族政策，包括尊重少數民族傳統節日、尊重少數民族飲食習慣、尊重少數民族特殊喪葬習俗、保護少數民族宗教信仰自由。尊重少數民族的風俗習慣是民族平等原則的體現。民族風俗習慣是發展變化的，隨著社會經濟、文化和科學的進步不斷除舊更新。黨和政府在尊重少數民族風俗習慣的同時，也尊重其改革風俗習慣的自由。少數民族風俗習慣的改革是少數民族自己的事情，由少數民族自己決定，由少數民族干部和群眾自己來做，不由外力強制或者包辦代替。
