The Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

The Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is the day designated for celebrating China's victory over Japan. In a circular of August 13, 1951, the Government Administration Council of the Central People's Government of China declared September 3 as China's Victory Day. This designation was reaffirmed by the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress of China in a legislative decision adopted at its seventh session on February 27, 2014. Top Chinese leaders, including Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan, and Zhang Gaoli, attended a commemoration ceremony at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on September 3, 2014. A grand celebration, including a military parade, was held on September 3, 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of victory of the Chinese people's resistance against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war. Heads of state or government and representatives from 49 countries attended the military pageantry and other commemorative activities. By designating through a legislative act a day for commemorating its victory, China has shown to the world that the Chinese people are determined to stand firm against any war of aggression and in defense of human dignity and world peace. The annual commemorative activities are also a reminder that the world should always be on guard against the resurgence of Japanese militarism and a possible replay of historical tragedies, so as to better safeguard world peace.

中國人民抗日戰(zhàn)爭勝利紀念日是指中國為紀念抗日戰(zhàn)爭勝利確定的國家紀念日。1951年8月13日，中央人民政府政務院發(fā)布通告，將抗戰(zhàn)勝利紀念日確定為9月3日。2014年2月27日，中國第十二屆全國人大常委會第七次會議經表決通過了將9月3日確定為中國人民抗日戰(zhàn)爭勝利紀念日的決定，以國家立法的形式再次確認。2014年9月3日，中國黨和國家領導人習近平、李克強、張德江、俞正聲、劉云山、王岐山、張高麗等出席了在中國抗日戰(zhàn)爭紀念館舉行的首個紀念活動。2015年9月3日，為紀念中國人民抗日戰(zhàn)爭暨世界反法西斯戰(zhàn)爭勝利70周年，中國舉行了包括閱兵式在內的隆重的紀念活動，共有來自49個國家的政府首腦及代表出席了閱兵式等紀念活動。以國家立法的形式確立紀念日并舉行紀念和悼念活動，表明中國人民反對侵略戰(zhàn)爭、捍衛(wèi)人類尊嚴、維護世界和平的堅定立場。同時，也是為了警醒全世界人民時刻警惕日本軍國主義死灰復燃，避免歷史悲劇的重演，更好地維護世界和平。
