Dongfeng Motor recalls 3,154 faulty sedans

China's Dongfeng Motor Company Limited (DFL) started as of Monday a national recall of 3,154 sedans with a production flaw that may cause brake fluid leakage.

The recall covers models SYLPHY, TIIDA, TEANA and LIVINA manufactured between Sept. 7 and Sept. 21.

In a report submitted to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Dongfeng promised to repair all defective vehicles to scrub hidden risks as the leakage could affect the functioning of brake.

The Wuhan-base company said its franchised Dongfeng Richan outlets would notify relevant customers by post or phone calls of the recall. Customers can also dial a telephone hot line 8008308899 or 4008308899 for further information.

Established in 2003 as a result of the strategic cooperation between Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Nissan Motors. Co., the Company has a registered capital of 16.7 billion yuan or two billion U.S. dollars, with its equity equally shared by both parties.

DFL is China's first joint venture in motor vehicles with its product mix covering trucks, buses, commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles.

The company expected the sales volume of its passenger vehicles to surge from 60,000 units four years ago to 300,000 units this year. It has sold 128,168 passenger vehicles including sedans, sports utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles in the first half of the year, expanding its market share from 2.6 percent in 2004 to 5.88 percent.
