Sales of flat screen TV to double in 2007, driven by Olympics
Adjust font size:

Sales of flat screen TV in China are predicted to double from 3.8 million in 2006 to 7.5 million sets in 2007, according to research by CCID Consulting.

"About 53.3 percent of the respondents who plan to buy flat panel TV said they just want to watch programs of the Olympic Games," said Tian Xiaona, a senior analyst with CCID Consulting.

"The sales surge of flat screen TV owes much to the 2008 Olympics," she said.

The study also found that flat screen TV priced between 5,001 yuan and 8,000 yuan are most favored by consumers and about 40.1 percent of consumers said that they would choose these types.

China sold some 3.31 million sets of flat panel TV in the first half of this year, according to CCID Consulting.

Sales will reach 9.26 million sets in 2008, 11.57 million in 2009 and 15.71 million in 2010, the study predicted.

Beijing-based CCID Consulting was the first Chinese consulting firm listed in the Growth Enterprise Market of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is directly affiliated to the China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID Group).
