China to 'Blacklist and Shame' Illegal Drug Exporters
Adjust font size:

Amid a rising number of food and drug scares, China is to develop a record on behaviors of drug and medical facilities exporters, both law-abiding ones and those engaged in malpractices, said the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) Friday.

"The lists shall be publicized regularly," The SFDA said in the methods on implementing earlier State Council regulations on improving safety of food and other products relevant to people's health.

Apart from the "blacklist and shame" mechanism, the government is also drafting regulations on recalling unqualified drugs and on management of exported drugs, the administration said.

China is undergoing a four-month nationwide campaign to improve food safety and product quality including drugs.

Much stricter supervision efforts were imposed on drug producers and exporters in the methods, and violators will face harsher penalties.

"Manufacturers are bound to guarantee their drugs to meet the standards in the importing countries," the document said.

Those who escape examination or whose products are found unqualified will be fined three times more than the value of the products, it said.

The production and sales licenses will be revoked if the producers continue making unqualified products or ignore the warning from the government.
