CPPCC Annual Session Receives 3,583 Proposals
The Fifth Session of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) had received 3,583 proposals by 5:00 p.m. of March 8.

After looking into the proposals, the CPPCC's Proposals Sub-Committee has put on record 3,368 or 94 percent of the total to be conveyed to relevant departments for handling, according to a report by the Proposal Sub-committee delivered at the closing ceremony of the Fifth Session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee here Wednesday afternoon.

Among the proposals, the report said, 3,265 were filed by members of the Ninth National Committee of the CPPCC, 56 by the central committees of parties other than the Communist Party of China and people's organizations, one by a CPPCC sub-committee and46 by different social circle groups.

Of the proposals put on record, 1,460 or 43.35 percent concern economic matters, 889 or 26.40 percent concern the development of science, education, culture, health and sports, and 1,019 or 30.25 percent were on political and legal affairs, personnel and the united front work. The 215 proposals not put on record for handling will be conveyed to relevant departments for study and reference as letters from CPPCC members.

Although the proposals cover a wide range of issues, much attention was given to such hot spots as increasing the income of farmers, improving the social security system, taking care of the disadvantaged groups and building a social credit system, the report said.

Issues concerning the cross-Straits situation and promotion of peaceful reunification of the motherland, further implementation of nationalities policies and religious policies, maintaining stability and development in areas inhabited by national minorities are also the focus of attention in the proposals, the report said.

During the run of the CPPCC session, the Proposals Sub-committee called two forums of representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the State Economic and Trade Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce and the People's Bank of China concerning the proposals concerning tertiary school entrance examination, education for all-round development and personal and corporate credit systems. Some proposals that are in need of urgent treatment have already been timely handed over to departments concerned.

The report said that a meeting will be held on March 18 after the end of the CPPCC session to hand over proposals that have been put on record to the CPC Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, departments of the Central Military Commission, the General Office of the Supreme People's Court, the General Office of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and to the governments, Party committees and relevant people's organizations of various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
