The revolutionary base of the Communist Party of China (CPC)in the 1930s and 1940s in the Wutai Mountain area has become the travel agency's regular visiting site for the first time.
The Wutai Mountain area in north China's Shanxi Province is famous not only for many ancient temples, but also for its historical remains of CPC revolutionary base.
In the 1930s, the government of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region was located in the Wutai Mountain area.
During the War Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945) and the Liberation War (1945-1949), CPC leaders Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Ren Bishi, Nie Rongzhen once lived there to direct the wars.
In recent years, the local government has built the memorial of Chairman Mao Zedong's residence, the Headquarters of the Eighth Route Army, the memorial hall for Canadian doctor Norman Bethune, to mark the CPC's glorious history.
Norman Bethune started to work in Wutai County on June 19, 1938. The site of his 'model hospital' is located in Songyankou Village, covering an area of 1,148 square meters.
Today, tourists to the hospital can visit the well-protected three operating rooms, a clinic and a dozen recovery rooms.
In the northern portion of this hospital, a display room shows visitors many historical materials about the great internationalist, including pictures, letters and diaries.
