YINGKOU
Yingkou Economic and Technological Development Zone

Yingkou Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved in October, 1992. It now has a developed area of 24 square kilometers and a population of 150,000.

Geographic Location
Yingkou Economic & Technological Development Zone (YETDZ) is located in the middle stretch of the Liaodong Peninsula, on the northeast coast of the Liaodong Bay, of the Bohai Sea. It is near the Yingkou New Port, about 210 kilometers south of Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, and 180 kilometers to Dalian in the south. Surrounded is YEDTZ by eight big Liaoning cities scattered in the central hinterland of Northeast China.

Climate
YETDZ is in the temperate marine climate zone. Its annual mean temperature is 9.8 centigrade, with a yearly mean precipitation of 545.9 millimeters .

Communication and Transportation
Port
Yingkou Port is the second largest port in northeast China with 28 berths, of which 16 can handle 10,000-ton freighters and some up to 80,000-ton ships. The annual handling capacity is 25,000,000 ton of cargo. It operates container liner routes to Hong Kong, Japan (Kobe, Yokohama, Osaka, and Nagoya), South Korea (Busan) and feeder routes to a number of domestic ports. It maintains shipping services with more than 140 harbors in over 40 countries and regions around the world.

Landway
To the east of the YETDZ there are three north-south communication arteries, namely the Harbin-Dalian Railway, Harbin-Dalian Highway and the Harbin-Dalian Expressway. And inside the YETDZ there are three east-west accesses: a harbor-exclusive railway, a highway, and a road for entry into the zone.

Airport
The YETDZ is an hour's drive to Anshan Airport via the expressway, 90 minutes of drive (180 km) to Zhoushuizi International Airport, Dalian, and two hours to Taoxian International Airport of Shenyang, 210 kilometers away. In addition, preparation for the construction of a Yingkou International Airport is under way.

Natural Resources
The YETDZ abounds in mineral resources, lumber, cereals, fruits and aquatic products. To the north is is adjacent to the Liaohe Oil Field that has offshore and underground crude and natural gas deposits in abundance. The refined oil and natural gas are transported to Yingkou Port through two pipelines passing the YETDZ from the Daqing Oilfield.

There are 32 varieties of metallic and non-metal minerals already verified in the Yingkou area. Among them, magnetite deposit ranks the first in China. Talcum, Boron, and Gold mines are also in rich reserves. Natural mineral water gushes out by 442.5 tons per day. The annual production of offshore salt totals 800,000 tons, making it one of the top four salt producers in China. In addition, this area is a big supplier of rice, fruits and aquatic products.

Tourism Resources
The development zone runs along coastline of 25 kilometers, sporting natural bathing places, hot springs and forest parks.

Industrial Structure
Five core industries have come into shape, namely, minerals processing, cereal processing, timber manufacturing, leather & garment making, and cosmetic products and supplies manufacturing.

Investment Priorities
1. Agricultural projects that benefit the industrialization of agriculture, such as agricultural breeding, aquaculture, shore exploitation, seed germination and amelioration, cash crops and fruits processing
2. Leading-edge technologies that utilize foreign high-tech to develop machinery, electronics and chemical industries
3. Service sectors such as tourism and catering
4. Infrastructure construction and development
5. Areas of interest where foreign investment is especially encouraged by using existing resources in the YETDZ:
A. Magnetite products and stone processing by making use of local magnetite deposits
B. Intensive processing of cereals by taking advantage of the grain resources of the Northeastern provinces (i.e. Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang)
C. Forest products and byproducts manufacturing
D. Leather and fur manufacturing by drawing on the rich livestock farming resources in the Northeast and Inner Mongolia.
E. Labor-intensive manufacturing industries such as textiles, garment making, and other daily necessities by taking advantage of local labor resources.
