David Ho to Set up AIDS Prevention & Monitoring Station in Central China
Prof. David Ho, a Chinese American, the inventor of the Cocktail Drug for curbing the AIDS in its earlier period has been given the title as an honorary professor of the Wuhan University on July 16, 2003. Meanwhile, Prof. Ho expressed hopes to cooperate with the Wuhan University for setting up an AIDS Prevention and Monitoring Station in the central region of China, in order to raise the conditions and level for the monitoring and treatment of the disease in the areas of Hubei and Henan.

Prof. David Ho invented the ARV known as the "Cocktail Therapy" in 1996, making the mortality of the AIDS sufferers to reduce from 100 to 20 percent. He therefore cut a figure of the weekly "Times" in the USA. In over 20 years of his research for anti-AIDS drugs in the past he published more than 250 articles on the subject, hence reputed as "one of those who possibly knows the most about the HIV in the world".

As a Chinese American scientist Prof. Ho has paid a great attention to the work of the AIDS research and prevention in China. Over the past decade of years he came to China almost every year, providing technical assistance to the AIDS research and in support of the prevention work in China, and in the meanwhile he has made an extensive cooperation with the Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

In 2001, the Modern Virus Research Center of the Wuhan University started cooperation with Prof. Ho in the research and making of the anti-AIDS vaccine in central China.

Recently, invited by Wuhan University Prof. Ho came to Hubei and went together with the experts here to among the AIDS patients for an on-the-spot study and delivered lectures on the subject. Gu Shengzu, Vive-governor of Hubei province met him and his team.

As Prof. Ho proposed the establishment of the AIDS Prevention and Monitoring Station in central China has the advantage of bringing the superiority of the Virus Research Center of the Wuhan University into play, featuring a center for disseminating it into surrounding areas of the central China.

As learnt Prof. Ho has already applied for more than 10 million US dollars as research funds for supporting the AIDS research in the university while improving and raising the conditions and level for the AIDS monitoring and treatment in Hubei Province.
