The General Administration of Press and Publication of China (GAPP) released a survey on Tuesday, the Chinese Journalists' Day, which shows that 41 percent of journalists are females and 29 percent under 30.

According to the survey, 53.8 percent, or 700 out of 1,300 certificated journalists for periodicals are females.

But woman journalists accounted for 20 to 25 percent of state's total media staff, according to a report on the Chinese women working in media presented to Non-governmental Organization Forum of the Fourth World Women's Conference held in Beijing in 1995.

By the end of January this year, more than 146,000 Chinese journalists had been qualified with official national press cards issued by GAPP, of which 70,000 work for paper-based media and 60,000 for radio and TV stations.

Among all certified journalists, 29 percent are in their twenties, 27 percent in thirties. Only 20 percent are older than 50-year-old.

"Personally speaking, I have not experienced gender inequality. In fact, I found many female advantages in working, such as sensitivity, openness, high linguistic ability," said a female journalist.
