Philanthropist Singer to Keep on Giving

Cong Fei, a philanthropist singer, said he would try his best to help more people if he could live a few more years.

Cong, who is suffering an advanced case of gastric cancer, had a 20-minute interview with more than 40 reporters from 25 State, provincial and municipal media bodies after receiving the third chemotherapy treatment in the Shenzhen People’s Hospital on Monday.

Cong was always smiling when answering reporters’ questions.

“It is logical passion of mine to help others,” Cong said with a husky voice through a mouth mask while sitting in a wheelchair.

Cong recalled his two experiences of dropping out from school when he was studying in primary school and in college.

“I was determined that when I could make money one day, I must do my best to help all poor children, who were eager for education just like me, to go to school,” said Cong.

Cong said he was particularly grateful that the city of Shenzhen, where he lived for the past more than 10 years, had provided a platform for him to help people in need.

“I was often called an idiot, a crazy or insane man, but I don’t think so, because I’ve thought helping others is a lifelong joy to help others,” Cong said.

“If I could live for one more year, I would continue to help people, and if I could live for two more years, I would still carry on my efforts to help more people,” Cong said.

Cong said if he could no longer sing in future, he would like to try to do mime shows or comedy to bring laughter to people, or write some books to inspire other people to continue his cause.
